Where the samples come from
A water quality report summarizes monitoring of the system. The samples were taken according to the monitoring requirements, at locations the requirements specify, which is not your kitchen and is not at your time.
So a report is genuine information about what is being delivered into the distribution system and genuinely not a measurement of what comes out of one particular tap.

What sits in the gap
The pipework between the system and the fixture, the fixtures themselves, how long water has been standing in them, and anything installed inside the building. None of that is inside the report and none of it is the system’s to sample.
That gap is the reason two houses on the same street can have different answers to the same question with the same report behind them.
So what answers the question about your tap
A test of the water at that tap by a certified laboratory. Your water system is the place to begin — many will sample on request — and your state drinking water program can tell you which laboratories are certified.
That is the honest answer, it is a route that already exists, and it costs most households little or nothing.
What we will not say
That anybody’s water is safe, or unsafe. That anybody needs a filter. Anything about anybody’s health, at all, in any direction.
Not because the subject is awkward but because the honest version requires a measurement at that tap, and a website offering a shortcut is inviting somebody to use it instead of the measurement.
The other three refusals
No brand names. Not as examples. A site that names one product is read as advertising in every other sentence.
No prices for work. We do not set them and never see them. What moves the number.
No verdict on whether to treat. That depends on what is in your water, what you use it for and what your household wants, and two of those three are not visible from here.
Why state it plainly
Because a site that quietly omits these reads exactly like one that never considered them. A reader who can see what we refused is in a position to judge what we did state.
